LIT6017   Theatre Practice I   (30 credits)

Year Running: 2019/2020
Credit level: F7

Description

Practice as Research (PAR) is one of the most challenging and innovative area in contemporary theatre studies. PAR is founded on the argument that theatre practice can be both a mode of research enquiry, and the means by which that research is disseminated. In this module students will be introduced to current theoretical debates in the field of practice based research, and to emergent methodologies for practice based research in theatre. They will then be invited to apply one of these methods in an elected setting in order to test theory in practice. The module will encourage a questioning approach to the values and limitations of practice based research, and to the critical role of research documentation, evaluation, and evidence based analysis in practice-based research
